Newsletter: 18 September 2011

Well Done for coping so well with the translation of the Mass.  Please see overleaf for your new responses.
Helpful Mass Cards are available for use. Important: Please replace cards in the receptacle after Mass and please do not take them away as they will be needed by people at the next Mass. You can, of course, take away this newsletter, if you want to practise your lines at home!

“How Far Can We Go?” All are welcome to a discussion about ecumenical issues such as non-Catholics receiving Holy Communion. 10am until noon, Saturday 24th Sept, St Augustine’s, Heelands.

Parish Christmas Fayre (formerly the Bazaar)
We had a good turnout for the planning meeting; thanks to all who came along with their enthusiasm and new ideas. We will have some new stalls to replace some of the old stalls. As the profit margin on the Christmas Draw has been getting so low, it will now be transferred to the Spring, away from other fundraising events. Bric-a-brac and books will make way for arts and crafts and amusements for the children. Please put the Fayre date in your diary: Saturday 26th November at 12 noon at Lord Grey School.

Catechism Classes for First Holy Communion and Reconciliation for children of school year 3 and above who do not attend Bishop Parker or St Thomas Aquinas schools are now underway on Tuesday evenings. Any late-comers, please see Angela White as she will accept additional children only until the end of September.

May She Rest In Peace

No Meat Fridays. I hope you remembered not to have meat last Friday. All Catholics (including you and I) must once again abstain from meat products every Friday. Why? To show to the world how important Fridays are to Catholics as the day Jesus suffered and died for our salvation. To help to recreate a common Catholic identity and serve as a collective act of witness. It is good to back-up our practice with prayer, such as this:

A Prayer For Friday
Almighty Father, your Son willingly shed his blood on the Cross that we might be freed from sin and receive the fullness of life. That day is forever remembered as Good Friday. Help me this Friday to remember your unfailing love for me, so that my small act of self-denial may bring me closer to you. I pray for all who witness what I do; that your love for them may find a place in their hearts too. Bless my family and friends and help us to be faithful to you and to each other. Give us such knowledge of your love and compassion that we, in our turn, may reach out to all in need. We make this prayer through Christ Our Lord. Amen

Boxes, Little Boxes. Envelope boxes are arranged alphabetically on the heaters at All Saints Church for you to collect. Thank you for using these boxes, as it means we can claim Gift Aid from offerings made by UK taxpayers. We have quite a waiting list for new boxes; hence if you do not collect yours promptly, you may lose it as we pass it on to someone else. Please pick up yours TODAY.
