Newsletter: 8th January 2012

DIARIES. If your child is to begin Catholic School (primary or senior) in September 2013 and will be seeking a parish priest’s reference from Fr Michael in December, please ensure you have your diary signed each weekend throughout 2012. Diaries and explanatory letters are available from the Sacristy. Please note that Fr Michael only gives references for children who, come December, have sufficient entries in their diary.

MAY SHE REST IN PEACE.Margaret Bartley, aged 80, late of Manor Road whose funeral is on Thursday, 11.30 am at St Thomas Aquinas Church.

PARENTS. Thank you for bringing your children to Mass. Please do not distract them with toys and sweets. Rather, teach them how to behave in church. Involve them in the Mass by informing them about what is going on. Why not invest in one of the new beautiful Children’s Missals, only £3.99p from the Respository? Full of colourful pictures, complete with the new wording of the Mass.

ITALIAN MASS. Advance Notice that on Sunday, 22nd January there will be Mass, in Italian, at 8.30 am at St Thomas Aquinas Church, thanks to Fr Nunzio who is visiting family in Milton Keynes.

‘TIS PANTO TIME. This Friday night the parish takes over MK Theatre as we all watch the Pantomine. Our thanks to Angela who books us reduced-priced tickets for shows all year round
… oh yes she does!

CONFIRMATION. A reminder to all candidates that your Course of Instruction begins in a couple of weeks. On Friday, 20th January you have a meeting in the evening at St Thomas Aquinas Meeting Room. If you can’t remember which group you are in, please check the notice on the church notice board.
Please note that the course is full.

WOBURN SANDS. From next weekend we are helping out at St Mary’s, our next-door parish, while Fr Ken Bowen is away on holiday. We are able to do this as Fr Mark Elvins is covering for us currently in Winslow, for which we still have responsibility.

CRB CHECKS.To ensure good practice on the Child Protection and Vulnerable Adults front, all our CRB checks are due for renewal. Our thanks to Marie Day for taking on this onerous task. It would be very helpful to Marie if all group leaders and co-ordinators could contact her with up-to-date information about who is still in post and requires renewal. For example, if a previously CRB’d person no longer helps with the Children’s Liturgy, it would save Marie time by not renewing that person’s CRB unnecessarily. Would leaders and co-ordinators please ring Marie on 07882 713797. Thank you.

SITUATIONS VACANT.
1. Two cleaners required for St Thomas Aquinas Church owing to the retirement of two cleaners of long-standing. May I thank all those who keep our churches clean, the unsung heroes of our parish.
2. Brown Owl Jackie is retiring as leader of our Brownie Pack. We thank her for her years of service to our young girls. If you want to help with the Brownies please ring the office.
