Newsletter: 12th May 2013

TODAY we welcome Louisa from the V.M.M. (Volunteer Missionary Movement) who will speak about her work, particularly in attracting volunteers aged over 21 years to go overseas “on the missions”. Sounds interesting, so we look forward to hearing what Louisa has to say. A Second Collection will be taken. NB: Louisa will not speak at our 11 am Mass in Bletchley as she will be speaking at our 11 am in Winslow, nor at the 6.30 pm Mass as she will be on the train back home to Liverpool by then.

WALSINGHAM PILGRIMAGE Saturday 8th June 2013 ~ coach leaves All Saints Church at 8 am and returns at about 8 pm. The coach is filling up nicely. To book your seat, please bring your £14. non-refundable fare to Jo at the Parish Office, or give it to one of the clergy clearly marked with your details. We always have a lovely time at Walsingham, England’s Nazareth.

BAPTISM TODAY. During the 11 am Mass we will baptise Imogen Wheatley and this afternoon Sophie McCracken and Alex Vayer. Next week, also during the 11 o’clock Mass, we have baptisms: at Bletchley twins Lourdes and Lorenzo Lagioia and at Winslow Joseph Williams. May God bless them and their families.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION. We are entering the season when our little ones receive Jesus in the most holy sacrament of the altar for the very first time. We begin with the first thirty children on Saturday. My thanks to their parents and catechists who have been preparing them so beautifully for many months.

ROSARY PROCESSION at St Thomas Aquinas Church, Monday 13th May (the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima) at 5.45 pm sharp. Just a short, prayerful procession around the church grounds.

O.L.O.F. PRAYER GROUP next meet on Sunday 19th May, 2 pm at 13 Earls Close, Bletchley (the home of Dominic and Millie Macaroni). Everyone welcome to join the prayers.

SVP Retiring Collection next week for local needs.

SENIORS’ PARTY. Organiser John Thompson writes: ‘As you know due to the snowfall earlier in the year we had to cancel the Christmas Party on the grounds of everyone’s health and safety. Since then we have tried to arrange another event to make up for the cancellation. However, due to difficulty in finding a suitable date and venue, we have decided that it is best not to proceed with anything for this year. We are sorry for the disappointment that this decision will be for you. We will, of course, be planning our next Christmas Party for early next year.

DIVINE MERCY RETREAT. Saturday 18th May 11 am – 4 pm. Venue: The Diocesan Shrine of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, High Street, Great Billing, Northampton NN3 9DT. All Welcome.

Programme: 11 am Praise/Worship/Divine Mercy Enthronement. 11.30 am/Talk. 12 noon/Holy Mass. 1.15 pm/Lunch (please bring packed lunch). 2.15 pm/Talk. 3 pm/Divine Mercy Hour. 3.45 pm/Veneration of Relic of St Faustina.

ROSARY LINK. After 8.30 am Mass on Friday 7th June we will have rosary and prayers for vocations to the priesthood in our diocese. As Bishop Peter said in his last pastoral letter: ‘I need more priests’. We pray that young men (and not so young) may be brave enough to respond if God is calling them to the Sacred Ministry. All Welcome.

SCARIFICATION has taken place at St Thomas Aquinas. No, this is not an ancient rite of the Catholic Church, although it sounds like one doesn’t it? Also it sounds rather unpleasant! Our thanks to Louis Kellett who has spent many days scarifying the grounds around the church and house – i.e. thinning out the thatch and moss that has built up over the years. Louis keeps the lawns mown and tidy. However, we are always looking for new volunteers to help with the weeding and gardening. If you can help out in this way we would be pleased to hear from you and we promise not to scarify you!!

May God Bless Us All

Fr Michael
