Newsletter: 13th July 2014

ADVANCE WARNING

St Thomas Aquinas Church will undergo some major interior work during August and September which will necessitate the closure of the building for reasons of health and safety.  It is expected that works will commence on the 18th August and will last for approximately eight weeks.  The 6 pm Saturday Vigil Mass and the 7.30 am Sunday Mass will, therefore, move to All Saints Church for this period.  Weekday Masses will either move to All Saints or be celebrated in the Meeting Room.  Thank you for your patience.

FAREWELL TO OUR HEADTEACHERS

As the School Year draws to a close we bid a fond farewell to our Head Teachers:  Mrs Colette Donahue of Bishop Parker School and Mr Robert O’Malley of St Thomas Aquinas School.  Both our schools have been well served by these fine teachers and they will be greatly missed.  They will be very much in our prayers as they move on to new pastures.

WELCOME BACK FR CLEMENT KARATHI

Fr Clement (a Parish Priest from Kenya) will be spending August and September in Bletchley providing holiday ‘cover’ for Fr Prince and myself.  We look forward to welcoming him back amongst us.

MASS INTENTIONS

A reminder that if you would like a Mass offered for your intention please contact Jo in the office to check if the date you would like is available.  Due to a very high demand there is normally a month’s “waiting list”.  We would advise you to organise Mass intentions as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

CHURCHES TOGETHER IN BLETCHLEY

This ecumenical group have joined the Sunday Night Live movement which aims to provide entertainment with a twist of faith.  This month’s event is on Sunday 20 July and will feature singer songwriter, Paul Bell, who will be bringing his unique brand of melody, lyricism and accoustic whimsy to Bletchley.  Venue:  Starbucks Café, Bletchley Leisure Centre.  Entrance free apart from the price of a drink!  Doors open 7 pm, music starts at 7.30 pm.  Your support is appreciated.

NOISE and BEHAVIOUR IN CHURCH

A number of parishioners have complained to me about the levels of noise, as well as “bad behaviour” in church.  This does not concern young children but rather adults!  Talking, use of mobile phones, arriving late and leaving early (without good reason), as well as rudeness to others, have no place in the house of God.  The Church must be a place of prayer where we can commune with God without unnecessary distraction.

Please let us work together to make the

Church a place of calm and quiet welcome.

MODESTY

It is wonderful that we are all able to enjoy the warm weather.  However, please remember that when coming to Church we need to dress appropriately and modestly.

.The role will be based on 0.5 FTE (17.5 hours per week) although with some flexibility.  Closing date for applications is Friday 14th February 2014.  Con
