SECOND COLLECTION THIS WEEKEND
World Communication Day:
Supporting the Church’s Mission through use of the Media.
The Catholic Church celebrates World Communications Day on Sunday 2 June 2019 when we are asked to pray for those w ho work in the media. It’s a digital world and since the launch of the internet, the Church has always sought to promote its use in the service of the encounter between persons, and of solidarity among all. While governments seek legal ways to regulate the digital world and to protect the original vision of a free, open and secure network, we all have the possibility and the responsibility to promote its positive use.
Statistics show that among young people one in four is involved in episodes of cyberbullying. To stem this phenomenon, an International Observatory for Cyberbullying Prevention will be established, with its headquarters in the Vatican. Pope Francis invites us to reflect on our ‘being-in-relation’, and to rediscover, in the current communications context, the very human desire not to be left isolated or lonely.

YOUR SERVICE TO THE CHURCH
As baptised members of the Church each of us is part of the body of Christ and all of us are called to serve Him in the world. We are the hands and feet of Jesus remembering in our prayer that God has no hands and feet but ours. God is continually calling us to build His Kingdom of love, peace and justice. We serve God and His people in a variety ways and in diverse and varied contexts. Our work for God is our service; we are not just volunteers but joyful servants of the Lord rejoicing in His presence among us. Our most important work is that of prayer and worship, praising God and loving our neighbour. There are also practical ways we can contribute to the life of our Parish.

We would like to take this opportunity to invite you to consider if God might be calling you to serve His Church in a specific and practical way alongside our life of prayer and worship. Please take time in your prayers this week to ask God how He is calling you to serve Him and what skills, talents and gifts you can offer to the Body of Christ. We then invite you to complete the Parish Audit form available at the back of Church and return it to either the Parish Office or directly to the Parish Clergy as soon as possible.

God of mercy,
unite your Church in the Holy Spirit
that we may serve you with all our hearts
and work together with unselfish love.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. AMEN
